Tasting notes
The Gurkha Cask Blend Grand Robusto, with a generous size of 152.4 mm (6"), presents a beautiful appearance. Its dark brown wrapper catches the eye while offering a pleasant texture to the touch. This vitola, with its robust format, suggests a promising tasting experience, despite the mysteries surrounding its components.
From the first olfactory contacts, you will perceive woody aromas with nuanced notes of nuts. Upon lighting, the aroma evolves to incorporate a slight sweetness, with hints of dried fruits like raisin sec. However, this first third does not seem entirely convincing, hinting at a potentially limited evolution.
On the palate, the development of flavors occurs in a somewhat fragmented manner. The character begins with notes of nuts and cocoa but quickly loses complexity. As you progress, you will discern an increased presence of black pepper and slightly bitter notes. Midway through the tasting, the blend becomes toastier while maintaining a certain aromatic discretion.
On the finish, the mouthfeel reveals itself to be medium, accompanied by a slight bitterness and an earthy texture that settles in. The balance between strength and sweetness fails to fully establish itself, leaving a mixed impression. There is potential, but this cigar does not seem to exploit all its possibilities.
For an ideal moment, this cigar would seem suitable for an aperitif tasting. A glass of whisky, such as a Talisker, could harmonize the experience, bringing a richness that the Cask Blend does not always achieve on its own.
Community impressions
Enthusiasts of this cigar highlight its beautiful presentation and potential for harmony, but many express their disappointment regarding the complexity and richness of the pre-light aromas. Issues with the draw and an uneven flavor development tend to diminish the enjoyment of this smoking experience.
