The premium cigar reference & tasting journal

Cigares.com is the leading French-language website dedicated to premium cigar tasting and cataloguing. Our database lists over 5,800 references from the finest manufacturers: Cuba, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Brazil and some thirty other origins. Each entry details the wrapper, binder, filler, characteristic aromas, strength, format and editorial notes.

Beyond the catalogue, Cigares.com is a community of tasters. Build your personal online journal, rate your cigars using a professional 6-step protocol inspired by Cigar Aficionado standards, photograph your sessions and share your expertise with fellow enthusiasts. Every submitted note is moderated before publication to maintain content quality.

Cigares.com rankings combine the editorial score with the community score (Bayesian average, minimum 3 tasting notes). Explore the top cigars by origin, 39 aromas organised by family, or 136 cigar formats to refine your searches.

What is the Cigares.com blog?

+
The Cigares.com blog features practical guides (how to choose your first cigar, vitola guide, humidor storage), brand comparisons and news from the world of cigars. It is accessible at Cigares.com/blog. Note: the blog is published in French.

How is a cigar's score calculated?

+
The score is calculated out of 100 points using a professional weighting: draw (20 pts), overall balance (20 pts), aroma quality (20 pts), construction (15 pts), finish (15 pts), aromatic bouquet (6 pts), intensity (4 pts). The community score applies a Bayesian average (minimum 3 approved tasting notes) to ensure reliability.

What is the difference between a Cuban and a Nicaraguan cigar?

+
Cuban cigars (Cohiba, Montecristo, Bolivar, Romeo y Julieta) are renowned for their balance, earthy aromas, finesse and moderate to full strength. Nicaraguan cigars (Padrón, Oliva, Perdomo) typically offer more body, chocolate and pepper notes with a more assertive strength. Both origins rank among the most prestigious in the world.

What are pre-light aromas on a cigar?

+
The pre-light aromas (arômes à cru) are perceived before lighting, by drawing gently through the cigar after cutting. They reveal the volatile compounds in the tobacco without combustion — often more herbaceous, woody, fruity or spicy than the lit aromas. This is a standard step in professional tasting protocols used by Cigar Aficionado and master tobacco sommeliers.

How do I progress to Master Taster?

+
Cigares.com features five progression levels: Novice (0 notes), Amateur (1–4), Connoisseur (5–19), Expert (20–49), Master (50+). Each tasting note approved by our moderation team advances your status. Master Tasters are featured at the top of the contributors leaderboard.

Can I browse the catalogue without an account?

+
Yes. The full catalogue (5,800+ cigars), detailed tasting sheets, rankings and community notes are accessible without signing up. A free account is only required to submit your own tasting notes.
