Cuban cigars Saint Luis Rey enjoy an excellent reputation. They are very expressive and have an intense flavor. The Saint Luis Rey brand was founded shortly before World War II and still offers a complex and expressive tasting experience to all enthusiasts of Cuban cigars today.
Flavor: full-bodied, delicate aroma Quality: superior
These cigars are among the finest Cuban cigars. This brand was created about fifty years ago for the English market. The cigars are presented in a white box with golden borders and a red label.
A limited production ensures superior quality for these cigars, which are recommended for connoisseurs. Care should be taken not to confuse them with Saint Luis Rey made mechanically in Germany for German buyers. The label of the latter features the same design but in green and gold.
The name of the brand "Saint Luis Rey," launched just before World War II, has two origins. The most popular attributes it to a novella written by American author Thorton Wilder in 1927, "The Bridge of San Luis Rey," which became so famous that it was adapted into a film in 1944. The other version refers to the plantation producing the brand in the San Luis region, at the heart of Vuelta Abajo, from which the best tobacco leaves originate; the word Rey, meaning king in Spanish, would have been added, creating the name "the King of San Luis." Between the 1960s and 1990s, an exclusive contract between the factory and Silverstone Cigar Limited established England as the exclusive market for Saint Luis Rey cigars.
Starting in 1993, cigar enthusiasts around the world were able to discover the 9 sizes of the Saint Luis Rey series. The excellent wrapper leaves from the renowned Vuelta Abajo region, entirely hand-rolled by the finest artisans, explain the success of these Habanos. Currently, its Double Corona and Serie A sizes are among the most popular among cigar aficionados, particularly those who appreciate mild to medium flavors.
