Cuban cigars Romeo y Julieta owe their name to the famous couple of lovers from Shakespeare's tragedy, Romeo and Juliet. The Romeo y Julieta brand has been in existence since 1875. The variety of vitolas offered by the brand provides a complete range for all cigar enthusiasts.
The Churchill vitola, developed by Romeo y Julieta in honor of the former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, is particularly famous and popular.
The Cuban cigar brand Romeo y Julieta was founded in 1903 by Jose Rodriguez Fernandez, who utilized his numerous contacts abroad to make it the best-selling premium Cuban cigar brand in the world. He elevated this brand to aristocracy by creating personalized cigar bands for kings and illustrious figures of high society. Today, Romeo y Julieta is among the most renowned cigar brands.
It produces 46 models of cigars, both mechanically and handmade. In 1875, Inocencio Alvarez and Mannin Garcia established Romeo y Julieta in homage to the famous tragedy by Shakespeare, resulting in immediate success, evidenced by several gold medals won between 1885 and 1900. In 1935, the acquisition of the firm by José Rodriguez, also known as "Don Pepin," accelerated its growth.
He indeed worked for its promotion abroad. In the past, Romeo y Julieta manufactured personalized bands in the names of celebrities and wealthy clients who acquired them. Thus, it was the first to offer a format in honor of Sir Winston Churchill, the former Prime Minister of Great Britain, who was also a fan of the brand.

Currently, Romeo y Julieta is one of the most popular Cuban cigar brands worldwide, alongside Cohiba and Montecristo, closely following them in terms of exports, as it represents 12% of Habanos SA's international sales.
