The powerful Cuban cigars Bolivar owe their name to the South American independence fighter Simón Bolívar, nicknamed "El Libertador." A national hero in several Latin American countries, he led the struggle against Spanish colonial rule in the early 19th century. In 1901, in tribute to this great man, the Rocha firm of Havana created the brand — officially registered 20 years later.

Simon Bolivar is an iconic figure of 19th century Latin America. As early as 1813, this general and politician worked towards the independence of Spanish colonies on the South American continent (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, Venezuela). In tribute to this great man, in 1901, 71 years after his passing, the firm Rocha de La Havane created the brand.

The death of its owner, Spanish businessman José F. Rocha in 1954, marked the transfer of the Bolivar brand to the Cifuentes family. Reserved for seasoned enthusiasts, Bolivar cigars reflect the character they are named after: renowned for being among the most full-bodied of Cuba, they possess a strong personality built on robust blends and great aromatic richness.

Their leaves come from Vuelta Abajo, in the west of Cuba, a region where the best tobaccos on the island are produced. The band of these cigars is adorned with the portrait of Simon Bolivar. These are not cigars recommended for beginners, but rather reserved for aficionados who enjoy powerful aromas, a good draw, and a slow, even burn.

The balance is good, with peppery tendencies and notes of exotic wood, coffee, and cocoa. Full-bodied and generous flavor, superior quality. Among the iconic vitolas: the Royal Corona (124 mm × 50), the Belicosos Finos, and the Coronas Extra — all considered among the best value for money in the range of Havanas.
