Top Punch cigars

The Cuban cigar brand Punch was founded in 1840 by a German. However, it only gained recognition through Manuel Lopez Fernandez, who owned the cigar factory from 1884 to 1925. The way the cigar brand was named remains controversial, and there are several versions of the story.

For instance, some attribute the name to the old satirical magazine "Punch," while others trace its origin to Punchellino, a character from the English version of the Commedia dell'Arte. What is certain, however, is that the spicy cigars from the Punch brand provide an unforgettable moment of pleasure.

Cigar brand created in 1840 for the Anglo-Saxon market, its name comes from the logo of a humorous magazine featuring a character smoking a cigar named Mr. Punch. This illustration still adorns the cigar boxes of the brand. This factory produces a large number of models, most of which are made mechanically in formats similar to hand-made cigars, so one must be particularly attentive when purchasing them.

Moreover, cigars of the same format may have different names depending on the countries. It is a blend of leaves grown in the Vuelta Abajo region that gives Punch cigars their distinctive flavor. Mister Punch appears on cigar box labels dating back to 1880 and 1870.

In 1840, Don Manuel Lopez was inspired by Mr. Punch, a famous puppet from a highly successful British humorous magazine, the brand being primarily aimed at the English market. Each box is thus adorned with an image of Mister Punch holding a cigar, looking extremely satisfied.

Handmade in their entirety, Punch cigars remain a reliable choice for aficionados of medium-strength vitolas. Throughout its history, Punch has changed owners several times, starting in 1874, until its acquisition in 1930 by businessmen Fernandez and Palacio, who were already holders of the Hoyo de Monterrey and Belinda brands.
